Northern Grey-headed Sparrow.\nThe northern grey-headed sparrow (Passer griseus), also known as the grey-headed sparrow, is a species of bird in the sparrow family Passeridae, which is resident in much of tropical Africa. It occurs in a wide range of open habitats, including open woodlands and human habitation, often occupying the same niche as the house sparrow does in Eurasia.\n\nThe adult northern grey-headed sparrow has a pale grey head with a white moustache stripe, pale brown upperparts, whitish underparts and chestnut wings with a small white shoulder patch. The sexes are similar, but young birds are slightly duller and lack the white wing patch. There are three subspecies, differing in plumage tone, especially with regard to the darkness of the head.\n\nThis sparrow is mainly resident in its range, but there is some seasonal movement, and flocks of up to 50 birds form outside the breeding season. It builds a cup nest in trees, thatch, or old nests of other birds; 2–4 eggs are laid.\n\nThis species feeds principally on seeds and grain, like other sparrows, but will readily take insects including termites, especially when feeding young.\n\nThe calls include cheeps and chirps, and the typical sparrow churring alarm call.\n\nThe northern grey-headed sparrow is replaced in eastern and southern Africa by very similar birds that are sometimes considered races of this species: Swainson's sparrow, the parrot-billed sparrow, the Swahili sparrow, and the southern grey-headed sparrow.

The canary is 20 centimeters long and weighs 30 grams. It has a long, graduated tail that is more than half its body. Its head, back and wings are striped in black. The face near the eyes is grayish. To sing, the male perches in exposed places, where the strong black stripes on its back stand out, as does its beak, which is pointed and yellowish with a black upper edge. In front of the eye, a small, light semicircle can help with identification, depending on the light. The underparts are light gray (yellowish in juveniles, whose beak lacks the yellow tone of adults). The legs are yellow or pinkish and the belly is whitish-brown.\nThe long tail (about half the bird's total length) makes it easy to identify from a distance, especially when it perches on the highest branches of grass or exposed branches of bushes. On these occasions, it keeps its tail half open, making the difference in size between its feathers clear: the central ones are larger, while the others are gradually smaller. The tail also helps in identification in flight, as it moves slightly up and down in a unique way. When perched, the long yellowish legs also help to identify this species.\n\nThe immature (young) has a sulphur yellow eyebrow and underside instead of a brownish white, the sides of the chest are streaked and the mandibles are whitish.

The Chipping Sparrow (Spizella passerina) is a small bird commonly found in the forests of Northern Arizona. Chipping sparrows are small, around 5-6 inches in length, with a wingspan of 8-9 inches. In the breeding season adults have a distinct reddish-brown cap, a clean grayish breast and belly, a black line through the eye, and a white eyebrow stripe. Outside of the breeding season, the cap dulls to a brownish color, and their overall plumage becomes more muted. The chipping sparrow has a short, conical beak that is well-suited for seed consumption. Chipping sparrows thrive in various habitats including ponderosa pine forests, open woodlands, and areas with pinyon-juniper trees, meadows, and scrublands. These sparrows are migratory birds. In Northern Arizona, they are typically present during the spring and summer and migrate south to Mexico or Central America during the winter. Chipping sparrows primarily eat seeds but, to feed their young during the breeding season, they also consume insects. They can be seen foraging on the ground or in low vegetation. This chipping sparrow was photographed at Walnut Canyon Lakes near Flagstaff, Arizona, USA.
Sparrow are docile birds that are small, brown-gray, fat, short-tailed, and have a strong black beak that eats seeds and small insects.
