Green stink bug adults measure around 15 millimeters in length and display a color that can alternate between light and dark green. The ventral surface of this species is light green and reddish antennae emerge from it.[3]\n\nThey are often known as stink bugs due to the unpleasant odor they give off.[6] This stench, reminiscent of aldehydes, is the result of a glandular secretion secreted by the pores on the thorax of this species, when it feels threatened.[6]\n\nThe longevity of adult specimens depends largely on climatic conditions, such as temperature and humidity, but also on the levels of stress to which the specimen is subjected. In any case, on average they live approximately 117 days, without significant distinction based on sex.[3]

The stink bug, also called stinkbug, derives its name from its tendency to eject a foul smelling glandular substance secreted from pores in the thorax when disturbed. Many stink bugs and shield bugs are considered agricultural pest insects, because they can create large populations which feed on crops (damaging production), and they are resistant to many pesticides. They are a threat to cotton, corn, sorghum, soybeans, native and ornamental trees, shrubs, vines, weeds, and many cultivated crops.

Hoverflies, also called flower flies or syrphids, make up the insect family Syrphidae. As their common name suggests, they are often seen hovering or nectaring at flowers; the adults of many species feed mainly on nectar and pollen, while the larvae (maggots) eat a wide range of foods. In some species, the larvae are saprotrophs specifically Detritivores [1] eating decaying plant and animal matter in the soil or in ponds and streams. In other species, the larvae are insectivores, preying on aphids, thrips, and other plant-sucking insects.\n\nInsects such as aphids are considered crop pests, and therefore the aphid-eating larvae of some hoverflies are economically and ecologically important. The larvae are potential agents for use in biological control; while the adults are pollinators.\n\nAbout 6,000 species in 200 genera have been described. Hoverflies are common throughout the world and can be found on all continents except Antarctica. Hoverflies are harmless to most mammals, though many species are mimics of stinging wasps and bees, a mimicry which may serve to ward off predators.
