Common reed growing in a swamp area at the brink of Arresø which is the largest freshwater lake in Denmark and situated northwest of Copenhagen. This is very close to Frederiksværk, which is a small-town northwest of Copenhagen. The common reed is traditional utilized for thatched roofs in Denmark in former times.

Inflorescence a spreading panicle, the numerous unawned, , usually dark purple spikelets with 2-10 florets and long silky hairs along the axis.\nHabitat: Fens, marshes, swamps, ditch sides, freshwater or brackish margins, damp clayey slopes.\nFlowering Season: August-October.\nDistribution: Throughout Europe.\n\nThis is a common Species in the Netherlands in the described Habitats.$

The picture is taken at Kalvebod Fælled - Kalvebod Commons, which is a nature area and public park close to the center of Copenhagen. It is a very low and flat area where there always is standing a lot of water in channels and puddles due to the high level of groundwater and a popular area for bird watchers
