The American Pika (Ochotona princeps) is an herbivorous, smaller relative of the rabbit.  These cute rodents can be found in the mountains of western North America usually above the tree line in large boulder fields.  The pika could become the first mammal in United States to be listed as endangered by the US Fish and Wildlife Service as a result of global climate change.  This pika was photographed near Sunrise Lake in  Mount Rainier National Park, Washington State, USA.

(Ochotona princeps) The Pika is a distant relative of the rabbit, except it has small, rounded ears and no tail.  They can be found from 1000 - 10.000 feet in elevation in the Pacific Northwest.  They are herbivores.  They do not hibernate.  They created haystacks of vegetation under the scree and boulders of where they live to supplement their winter food supply.

The pika is typically found at high altitudes in rocky areas, where they can travel under the rocks out of reach of arial and other predators.

The American pika (Ochotona princeps), a diurnal species of pika, is found in the mountains of western North America, usually in boulder fields at or above the tree line. The Sheepeater Cliffs are a series of exposed cliffs made up of columnar basalt in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.  The lava was deposited about 500,000 years ago during one of the periodic basaltic floods in Yellowstone Caldera.Lagomorpha.
